Beckford's Dress Code

PERFERRED DRESS:

Although we do not have an official dress code, we do strongly suggest the following for the safety of your children:

•  Closed toe shoes are the only shoes appropriate for all children.  Sandals, slip-ons, shoes with wheels, and untied shoes are a hazard and not permitted.
• Short shorts and spaghetti strap tops and ‘muscle” tee-shirts are not appropriate
• Dangling earrings and excessive jewelry can be dangerous and bothersome to children.
• Baggy pants and shorts will not be permitted
• Hairstyles should be appropriate for school.  We ask that students not be permitted to put colored dye or jells into their hair.  We have one or two crazy hair days and Halloween a times to allow children to have fun hair.
• Neat appropriate clothing that children are comfortable in, is appropriate. Let children know that it is okay to get a little dirty during the play time. Accidents will happen, spills during lunch are common, and sliding into first base can cause dirt.  We want children to be careful yet comfortable.

No student shall wear clothing that:

1.  Creates a safety hazard, such as open-toed shoes and dangling earrings.
2. Is inappropriate for the school environment, such as items with obscene messages and indecent or suggestive attire.
3. Promotes gang affiliation; such as pierced ear studs and colored bandannas.

The school will have final decision regarding interpretation and enforcement of the dress codes.

Clothes Closet

For those of you who may not be aware, Beckford School has a Clothes Closet.  It consists of a collection of new and used clothing that has been donated, and is available to any student for any reason.  Students sometimes forget to bring a warm sweater to school on a blustery day, or they may tear their clothes while playing.  Whatever the reason, they can find clothes in the Clothes Closet.  But we need to keep it stocked, so please help if you can.  We need new or used clothing of every type, but we particularly need sweat shirts and sweat pants.  Take a moment to sort through your child's closet, and give what you can.  Thank you.
