Philosophy/Mission Statement

In the 1998-99 school year, Beckford became a School-Based Management School. Part of the School-Based Management program is to develop a Mission statement. Work on this statement is in progress.

Background Data

Beckford Avenue Elementary was founded in 1968.

Beckford is fortunate to be fully air conditioned and carpeted. It is receiving Prop BB money to remove and replace the roof. Prop BB money was also used in 1998 to add portable classrooms to support its increased enrollment. Beckford was recently painted. In addition, the playground will soon be resurfaced with a designated area for grass.

Logo/Mascot

The Beckford Mascot is the Beckford Bear.  The School logo is a paw print. (Click here to see the logo.)

Cluster/Associated Middle School and High School

After graduating from Beckford, most students go to Nobel Middle School, and then to Granada High School

Bilingual Program

At each grade level, there is an English Language Development program. Students are emersed in English vocabulary in order to provide maximum academic support.

Demographics

Starting in 1998, Beckford is participating in the District's Class Size Reduction Program for Grades K, 1, 2 & 3. All the Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classes have 20 or fewer students. We are very enthusiastic about having this opportunity available to us. Much effort and thought has gone into making classroom assignments at all grade levels, as we consider the academic, language, social, and emotional needs of the child. Please note that there are many guidelines that must be followed, such as class size, gender balance, students with special needs, and academic ability levels. Because of the unknown number of Beckford School students moving in and out, permits, and CAP placements (from overcrowded schools), all classroom assignments are tentative. If there are changes to be made, we will do everything possible to make those changes at the earliest possible date. Thank you for your support and understanding in this matter.

LAUSD provides the numbers and percentages of students of various ethnicities attending Beckford to the public.

School Accountability Report Card

Every school is required to have a School Accountability Report Card, or SARC. This document includes information regarding salaries, student achievement, class sizes, textbooks, teacher assignments, and much more. Click on the SARC icon to read the report.

After-school Playground

The After-School Playground Program is provided by the Auxiliary Services Branch as an additional resource of the community's recreational facilities. The program is designed to afford those students capable of independently traveling to and from the playground the opportunity to voluntarily participate in organized games and activities. Students must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the rules and regulations of the school. The After-School Playground is not a child care facility and on occasion may be closed in the absence of the Playground Supervisor. If this occurs, we will try to notify students prior to the end of the school day. The children will be allowed to use the office telephone to contact parents.

Normal hours for the After-School Playground are 2:35 p.m. - 6:35 p.m., pending Board of Education approval.
