Parental Support and Volunteer Opportunities

Parents support Beckford Elementary in a variety of ways.

The PTA raises funds for field trips, teacher supplies, playground equipment, the Library, Computer Lab and the YMCA Psychomotor Program.  PTA also coordinates the yearbook and puts out the newsletter, The Bear Truth.  The PTA also sponsors "Red Ribbon Week" against drugs.  Other support functions provided by the PTA include the safety committee and coordinating the Room Parents.  The PTA provides many valuable services to Beckford.

If you would like to help out, please contact the school office, because your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Councils

Other parents support the school by assisting in important decisions that must be made. We have a Bilingual Advisory Council, a School Based Management Council and a School Site Council.

The Bilingual Advisory Council is for parents of English language learners. The purpose of this Advisory Council is to share information regarding students whose second language is English. They give input as to the expenditure of bilingual funds. We meet monthly on the first Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m.

The School Based Management and School Site Council meetings are combined into a single Advisory/Leadership group. The SBM/SSC meets monthly on the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Discussions include budget, school safety, curriculum concerns, staff development and calendar. The council is made up of an even representation of stakeholders: 5 parents, 5 staff members. Meetings are open to the entire school community.

If you would like to help out, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the school office for more information on how to participate.

PTA Events and Volunteer Opportunities

The staff of Beckford would like to thank all of our parent volunteers who help in classrooms, in the library and computer room, on field trips and in countless other ways. Without your kind assistance and support, many activities and programs would be difficult to complete. From the mom who helps once a year sorting gift wrap, to the dad who shows up weekly in his son's class to help out, your efforts are welcome and appreciated. Please make sure you sign in and out each and every time you enter campus. This is a district mandate for school safety. You may get your visitor's pass in the office.
