Childhood/Education

Joan Of Arc was born Jenette D'Arc on January 6, 1412 in the village of Domremy. She was the daughter of Jacques and Isabell D' Arc. She was the youngest of five children. Joan lived in a small stone-and-rubble house next to the village church. The house had four small rooms, with a loft above that was reached by using a ladder. Her parents slept in the main room while Joan and her sister, Catherine, slept in a tiny room to the rear of the house and her three brothers slept in an ajoining room. Joan's house was made of stone and not wood, this showed that her family was of some importance, in fact her father was one of the leaders of the village. Her father collected taxes for the the town's overlord and watched over the village, to make sure the peasants and their livestock were safe during enemy raids. Joan and her other 4 siblings would help their father take all the livestock to a secluded island on the lake by their village so that the animals would be safe during enemy attacks. Joan prayed often. Her favorite saints were St. Catherine and St. Magarnet. Joan loved to hear the sound of church bells. She loved it so much in fact that once ,when the man forgot his job, Joan went to the man with tears in her eyes begging him to never forget his job again. Joan was skilled at sewing and spinning, she could not read or write. She was such a caring girl. She loved the poor tenderly and would do anything she could to make their life better. She was also a very well-behaved child, she always listened to her parents' orders. All in all, Joan was the last person that anyone would think would recieve messages from God, since she was a such a simple person.
