:: RESOURCES: COUNSELING SERVICES
City of Angels currently has one full-time psychiatric social worker on staff. Following is a brief description of some of the services she provides students, parents, families, and school staff:
- INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING: Offer children and youth a supportive relationship in which they can learn new approaches to solving their problems. Possible groups include peer support groups, teen pregnancy and parenting groups, anger management groups, social skills development groups, etc.
- CRISIS WORK WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: Evaluation of situational and emotional trauma in the lives of children and families, thus removing some of the barriers to learning. Provide risk assessments and mental health interventions.
- PARENT AND FAMILY INTERVENTION: Engage families in the educational process of their child. Provide outreach to isolated, underserved, angry or alienated families. Provide community referrals and parent support for addressing addiction, serious mental illness, family violence, death, child or spousal abuse, family disorganization and dysfunction, etc., all of which affect and endanger the parent-child relationship and interferes with school achievement.
- TEACHER AND STAFF CONSULTATION: Provide support for teachers and staff working with emotionally disturbed, high risk, withdrawn, self-destructive and/or socially unskilled children and youth.
If you have any additional questions about available services, or have a specific case needing attention or consultation, please contact Stephanie Lee at 213-745-1100.
