The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Counseling services is a Designated Instructional Service (DIS) provided by the Local District A Special Education Office. Responsibilities include consulting and facilitating the deliver of counseling services for eligible students with assessed needs based on the Individualized Education Program (IEP). Students may be enrolled in General or Special Education programs at the assigned public or non-public school. The LRE Counselors served Physically Disabled students that my have Other Health Impairments (OHI), Orthopedic Impairments (OI), or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Students that are “dual enrolled” and are attending both public and non-public schools concurrently are also served by LRE Counselors.

The LRE Support Facilitators are a team available to support schools in the development of the Least Restrictive Environment planning and to provide for administrators, general and special education teachers, paraeducators and other staff that provides services to students with IEP’s. Topics addressed during professional development sessions, but not limited to, are modifications and strategies, behavioral support planning, transition activities and techniques for supporting students in the LRE. Additionally this team works with individual schools and complexes to build each school’s capacity to serve neighborhood students in the least restrictive environment.
