History of Horses

Horses, at first, were all wild animals like zebras are today. People hunted them for their meat and especially for their skins, to make into leather hides for clothes, tents, and tools. But around 3000 BC, people began to tame horses, to domesticate them, to eat them, and to use them to carry things. The first horses were too small to carry things. They were also small to carry humans, so they had to be bred better. It was the Indo-Europeans, still living around the Caspian Sea, who first tamed horses for their own use. In 2100 BC, Greece started using horses since Indo-Europeans moved to Greece. In Greece, the first appearance of horses was at Troy. Egyptians first started using horses to drive chariots somewhere around 1700 BC. By about 1200 BC, China started using horses and chariots.
