Henri Matisse was born in Le Cateau – Cambresis in France on December 31, 1869.  He was the son of a merchant.  He studied and soon practiced law.   He became interested in the practices of painting.  In 1892, he gave up his law career and went to Paris to study art. He was especially popular during his lifetime.  He enjoyed the collectorÕs favor, art critics, and also the younger generation of many great young artists. After Matisse finished studying art he started to paint and develop his skills more.  His first paintings were outstanding because he saw it only from his point of view. Matisse found very interesting.  But sadly he was in a terrible injury. He died in the year of November 3,1954. Matisse was a very great artist when he was alive and when he was dead to other artists were well known when they were dead but Matisse was different.

Master of Colors

Matisse began drawing and painting in the 1890Õs.  Matisse pointed some really aggressive strokes and bold primary colors.  MatisseÕs own early style was a conventional from contemporary art.  By 1951 he had worked on his last piece of artwork, of his life, Deux Dansers.  For (two dancers) Matisse had often dealt with dancing as a subject before, for example in the two dancers he cut out the two dancers in his point of view.  In 1905 to 1906 Matisse painted one of the most famous paintings in the 20th century named The Joy of Life.

During 1952 Henri Matisse created some cutouts because he couldnÕt make artwork when he was sick. He had an appendicitis and this was really hard for him to paint so he had to do cutouts.  He used scissors and beautifully colored paper and thatÕs when he started making cutouts. Henri used a lot of beautiful colors and thatÕs why he was called ŌThe Master of ColorĶ.  For example on top there is an example of the snowflake.  Matisse had cut snowflakes in different shapes and colors and as the background he put different colors and it looks really good with the snowflakes.  Matisse used a lot of bright colors when he was doing cutouts.  In the Snowflakes he used bright colors and it really looked good together.  Another example is for Blue Nude he used blue and white and he designed the girl in the way he saw the girl and he designed her really well and the girl is really pretty so he must of thought girls were really pretty.  After a while he stopped making cutouts and he worked as a lawyer but he continued to take art classes.  He was a very popular artist when he was alive, unlike other artists.  He was really great at deciding what colors to choose.
