Purpose of the Project Room
Think of the Student Project Room (rm. 309) as a resource like the
library. Teachers will use this resource to finish a class room project
that they have started a week or more earlier in their classroom. Sign
up in advance (one to two weeks) using this sign up form. The purpose of
the Project Room is to assist students in the four core curriculum classes
to create a product that they can display and/or can be used for a student
portfolio. The resource is available to other classes when availability
allows. Teachers are required to review your lesson/assignment with
the project room coordinator first in order to work out the technical feasibility
and best lesson plan strategy. Confirm your dates. Then present the assignment
to your students.
Sample Curriculum Projects
Word processing: Reports, journals and essays. A literary
or poetry magazine. A hypothetical newspaper during the Civil War or other
historical period. A newsletter on literary figures.
Spreadsheets: Show the increase in population as related to
agriculture and the industrial revolution. Graph sports statistics, stock
market trends, or weather and tidal reports. Tally and display student
surveys and mock voting results.
Database: Create a database to look up authors by time period,
key phrases, book or poem titles, and cultural influences. Look up cross-referenced
information on sports performances, stocks, wars and famines, planets,
animals,
Presentations: A guide to solving quadratic equations. A tutorial
explaining fractions, standard deviation, or properties of triangles. A
presentation on a local event, issue or historical period. Describe different
forms of poetry, how to make an outline, how to write an effective essay,
how to take notes, or how to write a letter. Describe photosynthesis or
an example of natural selection.
Available Software
We have installed Microsoft Office Pro and
Netscape Communicator. Inspiration concept mapping software will be installed soon. These are all the tools necessary
for students to create portfolio work. There are no pre-programed instructional or entertainment software installed.

students must submit their ID cards, and sign in. Students without ID cards
will be not be allowed.
