For Journalism in the second semester the focus will be on learning the basics of videography using iMovie to create newscasts, public service announcements, and documentaries, by relying on the Apple Learning Interchange, following their Videography lesson plans. Time will be spent in class watching and analyzing the newscasts of the mainstream media outlets (CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, etc.), pre-recorded public service announcements and the work of popular documentarians such as Ken Burns and Michael Moore. Student work will be compiled twice over the semester by the student editorial staff for publication on a DVD. Projects will be entered in this years Film Festival. Equipment / Technology: Emac and ibook laptop computers, digital video recorders, digital cameras; and use these software applications: Dreamweaver, Microsoft Word, Apple Works, Photshop, iMovie, Sound Studio, iPhoto. Los Angeles Times Tour: 2 hour editorial/print tour of the Los Angeles Times. Guest Speakers: professional journalists will visit to share their experiences in this career. Los Feliz Ledger Collaboration: student articles will be published monthly in the School News section of the Los Feliz Ledger, a local paper distributed in Los Feliz, Echo Park, Silverlake and Atwater. The top ten P.S.A. projects in the Journalism class will be presented at the Animation & Film Festival, and student teams will be awarded the Starlight Award.
