Curriculum

The King Middle School Magnet is an inter- national model for incorporating technology into the classroom. King has Internet access throughout its campus (wired and wireless). There is a large computer lab, computers in the library, and student iBook Mac laptops in the magnet classrooms. Magnet students create animated stories, digital movies, develop computer based presentations, design and build robots while becoming proficient in a variety of computer applications.

TEACHING APPROACH: Includes Socratic seminars, historical simulations, hands-on experiments and research projects. Students formulate, design, create, and present their work in a variety of student-generated projects.

EXCEPTIONAL TEACHING STAFF: All of our teachers have years of experience in gifted education. Our faculty includes published authors and poets, award winning filmmakers, professional artists, an engineer and an international consultant on brain research.

All magnet students have six classes with one elective at each grade level. The five core classes are: English, Social Studies, Science, Math & Physical Education.

ELECTIVE CHOICES: 6th Orchestra (entire year) or Elective wheel (8 weeks each) - Color Theory and Intro to Art History, Introduction to Drawing and Painting, Robotics, Computers Across the Curriculum. The 7th Grade students have a choice of, Orchestra (entire year), Drama (entire year) Media Arts (entire year) or Elective Wheel (8 weeks each) - Beginning Computer Animation, Art, Introduction to Computer Applications. The 8th grade students have a choice of, Advanced Animation (entire year) Journalism (entire year), Drama (entire year), Orchestra (entire year).
