Why Are We Here?
DID YOU KNOW THAT STUDENTS WHO SCORE HIGHER ON TESTS "tend to come from schools which have more library resource staff and more books, periodicals and videos, and where the instructional role of the teacher-librarian and involvement in cooperative program planning and teaching is more prominent." Read more at: School Libraries Work! • Provide a collection appropriate to the community served (geographical, political, economic, cultural, and social characteristics). • Have available and accessible a range of materials which reflect differing literary studies, and differing social, political, and religious views. • Defend students' right to intellectual freedom and their right to receive information. • Utilize the human and information resources of the community. • Help address district, state, and school priorities. |

Material Acquisition & Selection
The selection of books for the Northridge Academy High School Library shall be guided by the following: Books and other reading material will be selected for values of interest, information, and enlightenment of all students of the school. In no case will any book be excluded because of race, nationality, or the political or religious views of the writer. There will be the fullest practical provision of material presenting all points of view concerning the problems and issues of our times. Books or other reading material will not be removed from the library shelves because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval. The LMT is ultimately responsible for selection of materials. In doing so, the LMT will utilize surveys, statistical data, and observational data in the selection of appropriate materials. |
Challenging of Materials
The procedures for challenging materials is located in LAUSD BUL-591. As a stakeholder, any parent, staff member, or student may request the reconsideration of library materials. Book Censorship will be challenged through enlisting the cooperation of allied groups in the fields of science, education, and publishing. |
