Technology Resources at NAHS
Classroom Setup:
Every classroom is equipped with an LCD projector. Every teacher is provided with a laptop for school/home use.
The campus is completely wired for high-speed Internet access, and wireless access is also available.
In all but a few rooms on campus, there is a ceiling-mounted LCD projector, which is connected through the wall to a VCR/DVD system, room sound system which includes amplifier and ceiling mounted speakers, and to a drop by the teacher's desk, enabling the projection of both video and computer signals through the LCD projector.
In all but a few rooms on campus, there is a ceiling mounted video camera and omni-directional microphone. Teachers are able to control the camera to record classroom lessons in order to improve as well as share best practices. The cameras are also used for instruction, for example zooming in on/projecting student work.
Video Network:
A schoolwide video network system, also viewed through the ceiling mounted projectors, allows for school-wide video broadcasts. Videos are typically shown during Advisory.
Our cable-TV feed comes from CSUN. This also allows us to utilize the CSUN Video Library. Through our partnership with CSUN, our teachers can view any instructional video in the CSUN catalog through our cable-tv network.
Computer Resources:
Students and staff have great access to computers at Northridge Academy H.S. Each classroom has two or more desktop computers. In addition, we have one cart of 20 imacs in the Art department, two carts containing 32 Thinkpads in the Math department, one cart containing 20 Thinkpads in the Library Media Center, and one cart containing 20 Thinkpads in the Science department. We also have two open computer labs (room 209-23 computers, room 329- 33 computers) used for whole-class use, one computer lab used by our Computer teacher (room 215- 33 computers), and another computer lab (413D- 20 computers) in the Library Media Center.
Other:
The school subscribes to the video-streaming service United Streaming, and because we are an LAUSD school, our students are provided with free email and access to the LAUSD Digital Library both on and off-campus.
The majority of our teachers use the service YourHomework.com, facilitating school/family communication.
Each floor has a networkable copy machine/printer, that also allows users to scan and convert papers into PDF files.
