Banners Proclaim Small Learning Communities at Monroe High School

The banner project at Monroe High School is now a reality. When students and staff return to Monroe today, they will be greeted by the colors and logos of their Small Learning Communities. These elements of visual identity are extremely important to schools because they confirm the idea that something new and exciting is happening at the school. They proclaim that the school has taken the leap to reform its former comprehensive organization into one that supports smaller and more personalized learning environments. Currently, the Facilities Services Division is working on similar projects at thirty-one other LAUSD high schools.
 
On February 20, 2008, Monroe will be visited by Board members, representatives from the press and members of the community at large. They will learn first-hand how the LAUSD Facilities Division, working in collaboration with the Office of School Redesign, the local District, and schools, is working diligently to upgrade and redesign campuses to create smaller learning environments to meet the needs of 21st century students.
 
I encourage each of you to follow the Monroe story throughout the next few years – watch the test scores rise – watch the graduation rate rise – watch student and staff attendance improve – watch safety and security issues decrease – watch parent, teacher, and staff satisfaction levels rise – watch the English Learner re-designation rate rise – WATCH MONROE HIGH SCHOOL (School web site | SARC ) improve the lives and futures of countless students, staff, and families.
