The Choices Brochure is Available Now
Valley Alternative is one of the Los Angeles Unified Magnet Schools. In early November of each year, the Choices Brochure is published. It lists all Magnet Schools and where they are located. It also contains the applications. This brochure is mailed to all students who are currently enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School System. The brochures can also be picked up at any local L. A. Unified Public School during late November/early December of that year. It is necessary to reside in Los Angeles in order to attend any magnet school.
In order to enroll in Valley Alternative, the application form must be filled out and submitted to the Magnet Office by the deadline, which is usually in mid-January for the following school year. The Magnet Office determines the student's points. You can receive points in a few ways: by having a sibling in that school and/or by being on the waiting list from previous years. In May, letters will go out telling you if your child has or has not been accepted to the school. If you were added to the waiting list, then it isencouraged to submit a new application for our school every year until your child is accepted.
For those parents wanting to see the school before you apply, we offer tours of the campus in November and December. The dates will be posted on the School web site once they are announced. This is the only time we will be conducting the tours, so plan accordingly.
