OFFSITE ASSIGNMENT

 

The Graphic Design program consists of four courses: Fundamentals, Digital Imaging, Advertising and Web Design. Each course is 180 hours and instruction is divided between design skills and technical/computer skills. Projects include logos, newsletters, brochures, posters, packaging, advertisments, digital screen-based presentations, and web page design. Adobe CS4 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), is taught on Macintosh Intel computers.

Graphic Design: Fundamentals

COURSE NO.: 60-65-50 (Ad. Ed. #29-04-65)
This competency-based course is the first in a sequence of four designed for graphic design. It provides technical instruction and practical experience in:


Graphic Design: Digital Imaging

COURSE NO.: 60-65-55 (Ad. Ed. #29-04-66)
PREREQUISITES: Enrollment requires successful completion of the Graphic Design (Fundamentals) (60-65-50) course and portfolio, or instructor's permission.
This competency-based course is the second in a sequence of four designed for graphic design. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in:

  1. the use of a variety of hardware, software, and peripherals used in the creation and manipulation of still, two-dimensional images
  2. the use of electronic input and output devices
  3. available career opportunities and job responsibilities
  4. production and creative process
  5. features and applications of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
  6. troubleshooting
  7. the role of direction and constructive criticism
  8. manipulating images
  9. the advantages and limitations of various design software
  10. resource management
  11. employability skills.

A certificate of completion is awarded when a student demonstrates competency ("C" level work), in the core competencies listed above. The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards.180 hours.

Graphic Design: Advertising Design

COURSE NO.: 60-65-60 (Ad. Ed. #29-04-67)
PREREQUISITES: Enrollment requires successful completion of the Graphic Design: Digital Imaging (60-65-55) course and portfolio, or instructor's permission.
This competency-based course is the third in a sequence of four designed for graphic design. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in:

  1. fundamental advertising principles
  2. vector-based logo design and illustrations
  3. package design
  4. poster design
  5. DVD/CD design
  6. branding
  7. advertising for print and web
  8. electronic file management
  9. project presentation and delivery
  10. proofreading and editing.

A certificate of completion is awarded when a student demonstrates competency ("C" level work), in the core competencies listed above. The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards.180 hours.

Graphic Design: Web Design

COURSE NO.: 60-65-65 (Ad. Ed. #29-04-68)
PREREQUISITES: Enrollment requires successful completion of the Graphic Design: Advertising Design (60-65-60) course and portfolio, or instructor's permission.
This competency-based course is the last in a sequence of four designed for graphic design. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in:

  1. workplace safety
  2. fundamentals of graphics for the web
  3. color applications
  4. graphics software
  5. composition and writing for the internet
  6. proofreading and editing techniques
  7. electronic publishing
  8. Dreamweaver
  9. web page creation
  10. designing accessible websites.
  11. resource management
  12. employability skills.
