Ivanhoe International Festival

Ivanhoe had a week long International Festival.  The students presented dances they learned from a selected country they had researched, studied, and reported in their classrooms.  They presented some facts at their presentation and danced... One class displayed "Yanko," the ribbon dance from China, and some South American steps to music from Carmen Mirada. On Thursday, there was an Aztec Dance and a Hawaiian Dance.  There was some audience participation.  Also, there were Karate Demos, Korean Dancers, 2 Cuban Dancers (junior high school girls-Ivanhoe Alumni), etc... Students even tasted foods from many different countries.  On Friday, an Ivanhoe third grade student, her father (band leader), and his band entertained the students with music from Mexico.  Ivanhoe Elementary School basically used resources from the community. There are many talented parents in the community.  The photograph represents Mr. Earl White, a father of 2 Ivanhoe students, with a drum. He shared his drum collection from Africa and other countries with the students.  The Brazilian dancers were some of the parents too.
