Los Angeles City High School DistrictThe Los Angeles City High School District was formed in 1890. The territory of the District was expanded from time to time by two types of annexations. First, there were a number of annexations of other high school districts:
When the Los Angeles City School District and the Palos Verdes School District became unified on July 1, 1961, it left the Las Vergenes Union and Topanga School Districts as the remnant of the Los Angeles City High School District. The name was then changed by the new board and the district was called the West County Union High School District. When the Topanga School District annexed to the Los Angeles Unified School District on July 1, 1962, it left the Las Vergenes Union School District as the sole remnant of the West County Union High School District. Because these latter two had coterminous boundaries, they were automatically unified on July 1, 1962, and the West County Union High School District ceased to exist. |
