Annual Band and Drill Team Tournament One of the most colorful and resounding music and dance events held under the District’s sponsorship is the Annual Band and Drill Team Championships. A showcase for music and dance teams in the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 30 years, this event provides a unique opportunity for LAUSD students to display their school pride and spirit through their field show. Now under the umbrella of the Beyond the Bell, the program is flourishing once again. The Championships are conducted annually to promote excellence in the educational aspects of half-time performances by senior high school bands and drill teams as combined units. All groups are adjudicated in the following areas: music performance, general effect and visual performance. There are also awards given to the top auxiliary (drill team, dance or flags) units as well. The championships also promote greater school, parent and community involvement in school music and dance programs.
