Before School
Education & Safety Program (BSESP)

Ready, Set, Go!

In 2002, the Los Angeles Unified School District realized a community need for before school supervision at schools within the region. They implemented a radical new morning enrichment program, Ready, Set, Go! With school day education augmentation and new out-of-the-box learning activities, Ready, Set, Go! aimed its sights at educational improvement of each of the participants as well as providing a safe and secure environment. Currently at 93 elementary schools, serving approximately 4,500 students per day, and funded by a California State grant, Ready, Set, Go! provides a safe setting with trained supervisors to ensure students are better prepared for the school day.

Every day that school is in session, the staff members make sure that each participant is READY for school, often checking homework and implementing independent or small group learning activities. Next the staff members get the participants SET using disguised learning activities that focus on literacy, math, science, nutrition, history, etc. The final segment is used to get the qualifying participants breakfast, engage in light recreational activities and GO! to class.

Ready, Set, Go! is open to all students Kindergarten through Fifth (or Sixth grade where applicable). The program is staffed for 2 hours prior to the beginning of the school day (approximately 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. everyday).
