How is induction different from teacher preparation?

    • You will enter the program having earned the Preliminary credential.  You will be referred to as “participating teachers” or PTs .
    • You will have greater autonomy and opportunity to tailor assignments and tasks to your own professional growth needs.
    • Induction SB 2042 legislation does not differentiate the curriculum content requirements based upon the credential (multiple subject / single subject).  Most of the time you will be with others who are either secondary or multiple subject.
    • Portfolios will no longer involve highly prescribed tasks.  Instead, you will develop your own portfolio providing evidence of professional growth in each required performance area.
    • You will need to demonstrate a greater degree of autonomy.

When will I get more information?

    • At the Introduction to Induction group orientation.

What is CFASST?

    • CFASST was developed by the California Department of Education (CDE), California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and Educational Testing Service (ETS).
    • The California Formative Assessment and Support System for Teachers (CFASST) is the induction support system used by BTSA programs.  It entails developmental professional growth cycles of Plan -Teach - Reflect - Apply  for the purpose of improving teaching practices. At the core of our program are advisement and feedback relationships, new teaching standards, and formative assessment tools. Support providers and beginning teachers interact with the formative assessment activities.
