Locke Saint Goes to Sacramento

Brenda McKindra and Terri Kirkland
Transition Teachers

Congratulations to Ebony Sherman, a senior at Locke High School. She was selected to represent District I at the 13th Annual Youth Leadership Forum at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California. The forum takes place July 25 through July 29, 2004. The California Governor's Committee sponsors this conference. Ebony will collaborate with state representatives and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger about how students entering the workforce can be better served.

Ebony is the first student from Locke High School to accept this prestigious honor. She was selected because of her strong work ethics, self-advocacy skills, and determination to succeed. Participants had to demonstrate leadership potential in school and the community. Ebony then had to be interviewed by the Governor's Committee representatives to get selected to represent our area. Ebony will be the first student from South Los Angeles to be selected to participate in the Governor's Committee in over ten years.
