Professional Development Buy-Back Days funded by the State for the 2004-2005 school year

“Professional development activities shall include teaching strategies, classroom management and other methodologies that are designed to improve pupil performance and to address academic content in the core curriculum areas. Professional development buy-back days are to be us ed to address district priorities; standards-based instruction, language arts, mathematics, language development, intervention strategies and other activities to improve instruction as determined by the local leadership council.”

District Office of Transition teachers will be given the opportunity to attend buy-back professional development activities at their assigned comprehensive high school. Attendance of buy-back day professional development activities is optional. Attendance is NOT mandatory. Forms will be provided to each of you to have signed by an administrator at your school site to verify attendance at buy-back day professional development activities.

Single Track Teachers:

Teachers assigned to single track (traditional) calendar schools may attend any or all of the buy-back day professional development activities on the following dates: September 1, 2, & 3, 2004

Three Track (year-round) Teachers:

Teachers assigned to three track (year-round) calendar schools will have to make changes to their established “S” basis calendars in order to attend the optional buy-back day professional development activities. You will be contacted to arrange the changes to your calendar should you choose to attend the buy-back day professional development day activities. PLEASE do not make any changes until you are contacted by the DOTS office. Remember, the “S” basis calendar you signed is your official calendar for the 2004-2005 school year. Any changes must be made with the approval of your Specialist.

The buy-back dates for year-round schools are as follows:

Track A: August 23, 2004; August 24, 2004 and March 3, 2005
Track B: October 20, 2004; October 21, 2004 and April 28, 2005
Track C: October 26, 2004; October 27, 2004 and May 3, 2005

Buy Back Day Attendance Verification Form

Participating teachers are required to complete a Buy Back Day Attendance Verification Form for each day attended. Forms are to be submitted to the DOTS office along with the appropriate timesheet.
