100% Completed!

The California Technology Survey

Each year, the California Department of Education conducts the California School Technology Survey. This survey must be completed by each school in order to qualify for governement-funded programs. This year, the deadline for completing the survey is March 14th, 2008.

Status Reports

Although the state requires that schools complete the survey, it does not provide an easy way for district officials to check on the completion status of individual schools. In 2004 my ITAF approached me and asked if I could write an application that could extract this information from the state's web site. The result was a program that automatically creates an Excel workbook showing the status of each school. Each local district will appear on its own sheet within the workbook, and the status of each school is cleary labeled. In addition, if you "hover" your pointer over a school name, a pop-up message will show the school's contact information.

The report is available in three formats:

  • As an Excel Spreadsheet
If you have Microsoft's Excel application on your computer, then you may choose to download the Excel file. You will be able to sort, rearrange, and manipulate the data and graphs.
  • As Web Pages
If you don't have Excel on your computer, then you can view the worksheets as web pages.
  • As an eMail Summary
Don't have time to come here for the report? Let the report come to you! You can sign up for a daily email message that summarizes the progress that schools have made.

Enhancements for 2008

For those of you who used my reports last year, here are the improvements in this year's version:

  • You now have the option of having the reports e-mailed to you.
  • The Excel Spreadsheet report (not the web page version) now has buttons in the headings that allow you to quickly sort you schools based on completion status and/or completion date.
  • I updated the school database to account for all of the new schools and name changes.
