Dear Cimarron School Family,

Greetings! Cimarron Avenue Elementary has great plans for the 2012-2013 school year. It is an honor to be the Principal of a school that is dedicated to preparing college bound/career ready future citizens!  It is a privilege to work at such a wonderful school that is so focused on providing a rigorous instructional program for our students.  We have set goals for our students this school year that are measurable and achievable.  The goals are based on the results from last year’s test scores and they will help us meet our State and Federal targets.  We have planned many activities for this school year that will help us meet these goals.

The strong instructional focus that the school has is a testimony to our commitment to raise student achievement.  One area in which I hope we can count on your support with is the "Million Word Challenge".  We are encouraging our students to read (or be read to) at least one million words during the course of the school year both at school and at home. We will be sending information about this campaign during the second semester and hopefully your child will participate in this challenge. Research shows that children that read at least one million words a year can increase their reading level by one grade.  I also look forward to reading the Principal’s Book of the Month to the entire school during the year.  It gives me the opportunity to share good literature and the children are required to complete a writing assignment connected with the literature.  Their writing is featured throughout the school and it makes them very proud!

I look forward to working with all of you and I know we will accomplish great things as a school community team!  I have high expectations of everyone connected with our school, which is vital to ensuring that we improve student achievement!
