Los Angeles Marathon 2002
Anne Dios, a college bound senior, and Lourdes
Flores, a junior, both completed the new (easier) 2002
L.A. Marathon course. They started their training last
September with marathon leaders Mr. Speer and Ms. Uchida,
who also completed the marathon.
During the training period, they all participated
in a minimum of one event per month, beginning with a
one mile fun run in September at Occidental College. Other
training events included Heart of the City 5K, Run for
a Green LA 10K, SRLA Friendship Run 15K, Western Hemisphere
Half Marathon, Southern California Half Marathon (13.1
miles each), Saucony Hansen Dam 30K, and the Chinatown
Firecracker 10K.
Shoes, running outfits and all entry fees
were paid by Students Run LA, a nonprofit organization
which supports students in training for the marathon.
See Ms. Uchida or Mr. Speer for details
if you think you might like to begin training for next
year's marathon.
