There will also be a celebration on Sunday, April 6th for the 90th Birthday of Bolton Hall. The Verdugo Hill's High School Jazz Band will play in Little Landers Park at 10110 Commerce Avenue at 2 P.M. with a reception following in Bolton Hall Museum. Music and refreshments are free. Everyone is welcome.

The Classes of Winter and Summer 1950 will be celebrating their 50-year reunion at the Burbank Hilton Hotel, located on Hollywood Way directly across from the Burbank Airport.

A Hospitality Room with hors d'oevres and drinks will be available on Friday, the 16th, from 5:00pm to 11:00pm and again on Saturday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The banquet will be held Saturday evening with cocktails and a no-host bar at 6:00pm and dinner, dancing and the program beginning at 7:00pm. For those who wish to have breakfast with friends on Sunday morning, a special area will be available.

Prices for the dinner and hospitality room are $75 per person if paid by February 1, 2000, and $90 per person thereafter. No refunds will be available after May, 2000.

As some of you know, our good friend Dianna Dent Loborde died several months ago, but the latest friend to pass away was Pastor Calvin Covell who died in June 2002 of lymphoma at his home in Oregon. Any other news will have to wait until after our Aug. meeting. We'll send an up-date for Reno and future events calendar.

Classes of 1960 through 1970 Reunion

The Shawntays a Verdugo Hills High School 1960's to 1970's Girls Club Plans Reunion in Las Vegas

When we hit Verdugo, in 1965 we formed our own girls social club. Some of us were impatient that we didn’t get into a club our first semester of the 10th Grade. Others just refused to pledge.

The word Shawntay was an attempt by 15 year old girls to sound both elegant and ‘groovy’. Enchante was the root word (blame freshman French). It made each girl ‘a shawntay’ or enchanted. Yellow and orange, our colors were that of the ‘sun’ being from Sunland-Tujunga California, they seemed most appropriate. We wore matching yellow sweatshirts, with the word Shawntays emblazoned on the back in orange.

Sunland-Tujunga in the 1960’s was isolated. Although part of Los Angeles County, it was much more like a small town. The nearest freeway was fifteen miles away.

The biggest event in town, every year, was the Watermelon Festival. It was a much anticipated event. Be there or be square.

The Shawntays, would always have a booth at the Watermelon Festival. We would wear our bright yellow and orange sweatshirts and sell 25 cent chances to win a stuffed animal.

Some of us have remained friends all these years, since our graduations from Verdugo Hills High. But, we miss our other "sisters".

Well, we're 30 years older and, hopefully, 30 years wiser. Now, it's time to return to the "wonder years." We've been hyping the reunion for over five months now. I guess it's time for you to decide to either attend an event that promises to be most memorable or pass. Here's the info:

You! We're opening this event to grads from both Summer '71 and Winter '70. You're encouraged to bring your spouse or significant other.

Saturday, July 7, 2001, from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM

The Hilton Burbank Airport & Convention Center,

ROOM RESERVATIONS:
Call 1-800-HILTONS (1-800-445-8667). Indicate "Rate Code: WED" If the discount is still available when you call, you should be able to get a room for $99 per night. We are unable to "block" a set of rooms for the special price because it would have required a personal guarantee on someone's part. Good luck.

ATTIRE:
We're asking that people dress in cocktail attire. It's up to you, however, absolutely no jeans, please.

THE EVENT:
We'll begin with a reception/cocktail hour from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. Don't be late! From 7:00 - 8:00 PM, dinner will be served. Guests will choose from the following: Chicken Piccata, Prime Rib of Beef or Vegetarian Plate.

The rest of the evening will be devoted to renewing old friendships, dancing, taking pictures and acting 17 & 18 all over again.

We've opted for a DJ over a traditional band. The benefits include hearing our favorite songs by the original artists and volume control -- it's nice to
