MINUTES
The minutes of the previous meeting were checked and
accepted. Principal Dellepiane then spoke: Accreditation
is March 18 -- 21. March 18, Sunday, is the arrival day
and the team will meet with the parents.
Our Academic Decathlon Team did much better this year.
They scored higher in the standings and got several individual
awards.
We are about to open up the assistant principal position
( Ms. Dellepiane's previous position). We will advertise
the position by sending out flyers and letting the word
of mouth filter through the district. The district will
screen the applicants for minimum requirements. The selection
committee will then interview the qualified applicants.
The committee is Mary Gerdwagen, Jennifer Ingram, Jean
Hoelscher, Cheryl Dellepiane, and Charlie Noyes.
Mr. Ornelas will stay with athletics and student activities.
Mr. Plevack will take on discipline as well as his attendance
office duties. The new administrator will be in charge
of Curriculum, staff development, technology, and will
share budget duties with Ms. Dellepiane.
A new administrative assistant is on her way from San
Fernando Middle School. No one on our staff is eligible
for this position. Martina Martin was the trainer of Virginia
Hancock, hang on to your hats.
A suggestion was made to move the Minolta copier out
of the office as it doesn't fit well any more. Ms. DeBoer
volunteered to allow to rest in her outer college office.
This plan was vetoed due to the lack of supervision in
that office. Everyone remembers what happened to Mr. Riemer.
Money is coming. $115,000 from the state for our API
improvement. Also, $ 27 a student from the state in a
block grant. The block grant must have an educational
plan which must be approved by district B by May 1. Of
course, we haven't seen any of this money yet.
Do want to see our budget up close and personal? Go to
www.frbd.lausd.kl2.ca.us and look up the VHHS budget.
Suggestions were made on how to spend the API money.
Since the students did the improving, the student body
should get something. Suggestions: New Marquis sign as
the present one is an embarrassment about $25,000. Repair
and replace science equipment so the students have adequate,
modern equipment. Landscape the hillside along Plainview
to prevent erosion and beautify it. A video projector
for the auditorium. It was also suggested that we should
fund a part time position to promote the school with the
media. Perhaps it could even be an elective class.
Filming will take place February 20, 25, and March 2.
More information coming. A strike is looming and other
schools are competing for this money, so we to "make hay
while the sun shines."
The meeting was adjourned at about 4:03. (Almost a record)
Attending were: Shahla Balizadeh, Steven Vanover, Natalie
Scibetta, Daniel Weaver, Steve Saryan, Mary Gagossian,
