On-Site Council Meetings

VERDUGO HILLS HIGH SCHOOL
On-Site Council Meeting

October 29, 2001
3:30 P.M. - Room 127

MINUTES

Mr. Plevack spoke about the new alternative learning center(ALC). Details below. Mr. Terry is the temporary teacher of the ALC and is housed in the VHTV building. Unfortunately, VHTV has not yet moved out so there is limited space available at this time. Once there is space, tools will be available for the affected students to use for clean up and beautification.

Apparently, there has been a black jeep speeding around the campus. The driver has been identified and action is being taken.

Skate boarding is officially illegal on campus. The skate boarders do hold meetings here to create a skateboard park in the area. The city has put up S 600,000 for the park. Even though the meetings are here, skate boarding on campus is still illegal.

Lower bungalows: There is smoking/pot smoking at the handball courts before school. There are loiterers after school during period 4. Very rude people. The trash around the lower bungalows is not picked up.
Administration is working on the problems.

Faculty members should not ever give school keys to a student.
Next meeting, November 19.
Attending this meeting: Kay Burr, Dr. Wells, John Plevack, Mike Fahy, Jean Hoelscher, Danny Lopez, Easy Delaney, and yours truly, Charlie Noyes.

Alternative Learning Center:

Short Term:

Per Site Council proposal approved September 1999. We will be implementing a program that will support our School-wide attendance plan. The program is developed to provide a process in which students are truant on campus can receive immediate consequence. Also, students brought in by LAPD for Truancy can also be processed with an immediate consequence.

The ALC will also allow us to revamp ou@ School-wide Detention Program. Where in the past, students were able to defer serving their detention assigned until their senior year. The new program will result in an immediate serving of detention once it is assigned.

Process:

The Alternative Learning Center will be located in Room 10-Former VHTV
The center will process "In-house Truancy" period 1, 2, and 3
The center will oversee after school detention period 4

Attendance Office Referrals:
Student determined truant will be referral weekly
Teacher Referrals:
Students who have not responded to in class intervention will be sent by way of Dean's Office Referral and placed in the ALC for the class period only.
