The focused goals of the Los Angeles Unified School District are literacy, mathematics and professional development. Dr. Edgar Seal and the District K Professional Development Team share the commitment to provide high quality professional development to District K teachers in order to create a community of life-long learners dedicated to improved student achievement.
Incorporating elements of the Principles of Learning in all professional development activities ensures a common understanding of instructional practices that are core to our programs. The Professional Development Team provides assistance to District K teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators to work within authentic contexts that provide opportunities to build understanding and mastery.
A variety of training opportunities including salary point classes, performance assignment training, new teacher workshops, mentor training, BTSA training, Chanda Smith special education workshops, HEP (Health Education Programs) workshops, and Arts Education workshops are offered on an on-going basis. All workshops are standards-based, and lead to a greater understanding of the practices that will raise student achievement. Training is delivered by members of the Professional Development Team, as well as talented National Board Certified Teachers and others.
In addition to the training opportunities noted above, our team is available to assist schools with specific requests for training on banked-time days.
