Dear Parents and Students: When you open the links above, you will see long lists of books by title, author, reading level. There is a lot of information reading across the top line. The important parts are:
BL - Book Level - on the sheet that you received, you have the range of your child's reading level. To begin with, choose books that are in this range.
IL - Interest Level - when we have students that are more than a year ahead or behind, it may be important to look at the interest level. LG - Lower Grades (K-2) ; MG - Middle Grades (2-4); UG - Upper Grades(4-6).
Pts. - Points - This is the points the child can earn if he/she successfully completes the quiz on the computer. As children finish a book, during library time, computer time and in the classroom, they will have the opportunity to complete a quiz about the book. It is important that they pay attention to what they are reading and not race through the books.

Knollwood Elementary School Library

We are very proud of our beautiful school library! Opened in March of 2007, the new library occupies Rooms 1 and 2, creating a space that meets the growing needs of our students. A highlight of the new library is a wonderful “story steps” area that the students especially enjoy.

Our library currently houses over 7,000 circulating books. In addition, we have reference books and magazines for in-library use. We also offer students two computer workstations with Internet access so they may search our school’s library collection online as well as other resources.

Before a student may borrow a book, parents must have a signed permission slip on file. Students may change their book selection during their scheduled class visitation time or any day during morning recess period.

Students are expected to take good care of school library books while in their possession, but sometimes a book is lost or damaged. If this happens, parents must pay for the replacement cost of the book.

The Knollwood library is open each school day from approximately 8 a.m. to 12:00 and 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Food or drink is not permitted in the library, and safety rules are observed at all times. We are happy to accept new or used children’s hardcover book donations.

We welcome parents to stop by the library when visiting our school.

We look forward to offering our students the Accelerated Reader program starting this year. The AR program is a reading incentive program designed to encourage students to read more books. After reading a book, a student takes a short quiz and receives points, for which they will later receive rewards. Look for more information on the website as we implement this exciting reading incentive program at Knollwood!
