Distict K's BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support And Assessment) program is off to an exciting start. We have doubled our numbers of BTSA participants and support providers to begin working together to improve instruction for our District K students.
Instructional seminars have been held in October and November at Wilmington Middle School and Probationary Teachers and Support Providers worked on CFASST (California Formative Assessment and Support System for Teachers) events together.
The January session will have a guest speaker, Dr. Janice Phelps who will be giving instuction on the Writing Process. At each BTSA meeting we have asked our participants to share little BTSA joy with us from their classroom experiences. Here is our some BTSA joy to share with you!
A BIG BTSA JOY!!

An article about using time physical education class to help students with writing, appeared in the Daily Breeze, December 23, 2002.
Our very own BTSA participant , David White, physical education teacher at Carnegie Middle School, is shown helping one of his students with a writing assignment during shortened days. He's committed to increasing his students' literacy by using this novel approach.

One time we were discussing a story and checking answers, when we came upon a F/T answer, there was a division. I asked them whywas it true and false? They coud not answer... we discussed some more. Finally... like a wave, it came. Some Students answered in chorus, the answer appeared in their face. They were so excited they all clapped!
