District 6 GEAR-UP Vision
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)
seeks to improve our schools to increase low-income students' access to post-secondary education. GEAR UP is designed to enable more young students to succeed in our middle and secondary schools, to develop the learning skills to study hard and achieve, and to take the right courses to become college eligible and competitive for admission to colleges and universities as well as to meet the challenge of helping more low-income students become academically and financially prepared to enroll and succeed in college.
SOUTH GATE COLLEGE LEADERSHIP PARTNERSHIP
GEAR UP enables South Gate community to create new or expanded plans that strengthen LAUSD schools and provide increased educational opportunities for its students. The GEAR-UP South Gate College Partnership leadership model supports both South Gate Middle Schools and both Senior schools in Local Districts 6, such institutions of higher education such as U.C.L.A., CSUN, ELAC-EC, Salvadoran American community-based organization, Parent Institute for Quality Education, The HON business, and City of South Gate as they work together to help students and their parents receive information, training, and support along the pathway to college. GEAR UP also is designed to strengthen by bring capacity building and sustainability to academic programs and student services that are school site based.os.
